Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has inaugurated the
9th "Africa Food Manufacturing" (AFM) exhibition, held in
Cairo on August 2-4, under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Organized by Informa Markets in cooperation with the Chamber
of Food Industries and the Chamber of Printing and Packaging Industries at the Federation
of Egyptian Industries, the expo gathers a diverse visitor profile from across
the ingredients, and packaging and processing technology spectrum.
The event witnesses this year the launch of regional editions
“Fi Africa” and “ProPak MENA” of the worldwide "Fi Global” and “Propak” expos
respectively. It displays products of 140 international and local companies
from 16 countries, including: India, Russia, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, Pakistan,
Poland and the UAE.
“Egypt is a major production and export hub for food
industries in the Middle East and Africa,” Gamea said, noting that investments
in the sector amount to EGP500 billion and account for 24.5% of the country’s GDP.
She added that exports of the food industry sector hit $2.35
billion during the first 6 months of the year, up 14% from $1.788 billion during
the same period of 2020.
