Minister
of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has met with Zamian Minister of Commerce,
Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga, on the sidelines of the 21st COMESA Summit held
in the New Administrative Capital.
The
meeting discussed boosting bilateral cooperation, achieving industrial
integration on the African continent, activating the Egyptian-Zambian Trade
Committee and establishing a joint business council.
“The
ministry is keen on encouraging more Egyptian companies to visit the Zambian
market to explore opportunities for joint industrial,” Gamea said, pointing to
the possibility of cooperation between the two countries in agriculture by
cultivating Egypt’s strategic crops in Zambia for local market needs and export
purposes.
According
to official figures, Egypt-Zambia trade hit $15.1 million last year, with Egyptian
exports worth $14.6 million and imports $500,000. Egypt’s main exports to
Zambia include: fertilizers, chemicals, food industries, engineering
industries, furniture and building materials, agricultural products, garments
and textiles.
