Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine
Gamea has met with a delegation from the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC),
which included CEO and Secretary-General Bandar Ali Reda and Deputy
Secretary-General Abdeslam el-Idrissi.
The meeting discussed ways to bolster
the chamber’s role in expanding economic cooperation and joint investment
between Egypt and the UK during the next period, as well as holding an
Egyptian-British business forum to explore the investment opportunities available
in both markets.
“We need to step up efforts by
officials and business circles in the two countries to make the most of the
Egypt-UK Association Agreement signed following the Brexit,” Gamea stressed,
pointing out that Egypt’s exports to the UK amounted to $1.79 billion last year,
up 46.2% from $738 million in 2020.
Reda, for his part, noted that the ABCC
is keen to open channels of communication between the businessmen in Egypt and
the UK, which could promote the new development projects in Egypt and the
investment opportunities opening up in various production sectors, hence, attract
more British capital to the local market.
