Minister of
Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has presided today over the Ministerial
Committee of the 109th Arab League Economic and Social Council (ESC), held at
the headquarters in Cairo, within Egypt’s presidency of the current session of
the Council.
Delegations
from member states and Arab organizations participated in the committee meeting,
in the presence of Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Ibrahim al-Seguini, assistant
minister for economic affairs.
Gamea
pointed out that despite the progress that has been made regarding Greater Arab
Free Trade Area (GAFTA), there is still a long way to go to overcome the
obstacles hindering Arab economic integration.
Following-up
on the establishment of the GAFTA, the Arab Customs Union and the initiative to
launch the Arab Competition Network were among the most prominent
recommendations of the council, the minister added.
