Cairo- Oct 6, 2021
Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has announced the
completion of a guidance on transitional pan-Euro-Mediterranean (PEM) rules of
origin, applicable between the EU and its pan-Euro Mediterranean trading
partners.
The new rules, endorsed by a large majority of PEM
Contracting Parties, contain a significant number of improvements and
simplifications as compared with the current PEM Convention.
The document was prepared in cooperation and coordination between
the Ministry, represented by the Trade Agreements Sector, and the Union For the
Mediterranean (UFM) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The amendments include the elimination of rule duplication
for a single commodity, the unification of foreign component ratios for industrial
products, as well as the introduction of several alternative rules for some industrial
ones.
