Minister of Trade and Industry
Ahmed Samir has received Spanish Secretary of State for Trade Xiana Méndez Bértolo,
who is visiting Cairo leading a large business delegation of 33 major Spanish
companies.
The meeting was attended by Alvaro
Iranzo, Spain’s ambassador to Egypt, and Yahya al-Wathiq Billah, head of the
Egyptian Commercial Service.
The two sides explored developing
bilateral economic ties as well as other issues of mutual interest. They also discussed
means to transfer Spanish industrial expertise and potential cooperation in the
field of automotive feeding industries.
“Spain is a major economic partner of Egypt in
various areas,” Samir said, noting that the visit reflects both countries’
keenness on boosting mutual cooperation, especially that Egypt is a key FDI
destination in the region and the world.
The minister, moreover, highlighted
the importance of the “Egypt-Spain: Multilateral Partnership” forum, currently
held in Cairo, in bringing together the two business communities and opening up
new horizons for further cooperation between the two markets.
