Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir has received Brazilian ambassador in Cairo Antonio de Aguiar Patriota to discuss developing mutual economic relations on bilateral and multilateral levels, as well as latest changes in the global economy.

“Egypt and Brazil enjoy strategic long-standing ties, namely in trade, industry, agriculture, transportation and investment,” Samir said, commending the current fruitful cooperation in various fields.

The minister also highlighted the importance of Egypt’s accession to Mercosur, which offers vast export opportunities for its goods at competitive prices.

Patriota, for his part, pointed out that Egypt is a key player in the Arab world and the second major economy in Africa, noting that Brazil, as a Mercosur member, has numerous successful industrial projects in the local market in bus manufacturing and fertilizers.

The ambassador further invited Samir to visit Brazil leading a business delegation to explore opportunities for potential cooperation in the Latin American market.

According to figures, trade between the two countries hit $2.551 billion in 2021, up 29.5% from $1.969 billion a year earlier, mainly including agricultural products, food and fertilizers.
