Egypt is the world’s first date producer, contributing 17.7% to the global date market.
A national strategy to develop the date industry in Egypt is being finalized, announced Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Kabil at the third festival of Egyptian dates in Siwa.
Held under the auspices of President Sisi, the festival is organized by the Trade and Industry Ministry in cooperation with Khalifa International Award for Date Palm, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
“The gathering is a key step to develop the date sector in Egypt,” Kabil said in the speech delivered by Assistant Minister Hossam Khattab, where he stressed the ministry’s keenness to support promising sectors like the palm dates.
Figures show that Egypt is the world’s first date producer, contributing 17.7% to the global date market.
