The Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Arab-Brazilian
Chamber of Commerce have signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a
representative office for the Chamber in Cairo with the aim of promoting trade
and economic cooperation between Egypt, Brazil and the surrounding countries.
“The five-year
agreement comes within the ministry's keenness to boost cooperation between the
business communities in both countries,” Gamea said.
A regional office, she added, will serve the common interests of Egyptian
and Brazilian businessmen, and help facilitate the movement of goods and
services, especially in light of the free trade agreement between Egypt and the
Mercosur countries, including: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, which
entered into force in 2017.
“Brazil is
one of Egypt’s key partners in Latin America on the political and economic
levels,” she noted.
The meeting was attended by: Vice President of the Federative
Republic of Brazil Hamilton Mourão, Ambassador of Brazil in Cairo Antonio Patriota,
Secretary General of the Union of Arab Chambers of Commerce Khaled Hanafy, and President
of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers Ibrahim Mahmoud al-Arabi.
