Egypt has made headway in the decarbonization path of its
local industry, Samir says.

Ahmed Samir has taken part in the opening session of the ‘Decarbonization Day’
at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, along with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for
Climate John Kerry, UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller, and Minister of
Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek al-Molla.
“Egypt has made headway in the decarbonization
path of its local industry, shifting to green technologies and low-carbon
infrastructure in industrial parks,” Samir said in his keynote speech.
He stressed the need to join
efforts to achieve climate goals and find eco-friendly solutions especially
with regards to manufacturing, which causes one-third of global greenhouse gas
The ministry, he added, has undertaken
a project to enhance energy-efficiency in the industrial sector in cooperation
with a number of international institutions, as well as promoted clean energy
Furthermore, Egypt is currently
expanding its Green Certification Program to government procurements,
encouraging products with a “Green Star” label, and is launching a national
plan for emissions trading to promote the use of low-carbon technologies, Samir
