Minister of Trade and Industry
Ahmed Samir has inaugurated the 13th general assembly meetings of
the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC), hosted in Cairo on Sep 26-30, in
the presence of Chairman Ron Josias and Hany el-Desouki, executive director of the
Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC).
The event witnessed the participation
of Celestine Okanya, head of the Pan African Quality Infrastructure (PAQI), as
well as representatives of accreditation bodies on the Dark Continent and AFRAC
members.
“Egypt fully supports an
internationally-recognized African accreditation system, which fuels a stronger
intra-African trade and boosts the competitiveness of the continent’s exports
abroad,” Samir said in his keynote speech.
Josias, for his part, noted that AFRAC
continues to make tremendous advancements toward facilitating the mutual
acceptance of conformity assessment results, pointing out that it has set up nine
accreditation bodies, seven of which are internationally recognized.
