Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed
Samir has held a series of meetings with major international companies operating
in the local market in the fields of IT, communications, automotives and e-commerce,
to explore means of luring more FDIs and current challenges to address.
“The Egyptian state is undertaking
a package of measures and initiatives aiming to stir national manufacturing,
including providing land plots with utilities and streamlining industrial
licensing,” Samir said.
The minister met with General
Manager of Oppo Egypt Noah Ma where they discussed Oppo’s new factory in the 10th
of Ramadan, which will start production early 2024. He also discussed potential
projects in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and green energy with CEO of
Huawei Egypt Jim Liu.
Another meeting with Sharon Nishi, managing
director of General Motors Egypt and North Africa, focused on the company’s
vision to localize carmaking in Egypt to meet market needs and export abroad.
Moreover, Samir had a meeting with Amazon
Egypt's General Manager Omar Elsahy, in the presence of Mohamed Abdel Karim,
head of the Industrial Development Authority, to explore cooperation on
promoting local products on global markets. They also discussed Amazon's future
projects in Egypt, including opening its largest regional customer service
center for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Germany, as well as a second storage
warehouse in late 2023.
