The meeting has discussed further cooperation in developing Egypt’s
furniture industry.

Minister of Trade and Industry
Ahmed Samir has received Zuzana Schwidrowski, director of the United Nations
Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) North Africa Office, to discuss further
cooperation in developing Egypt’s furniture industry.
The meeting was attended by Mohamed
Abdel Karim, CEO of the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), and Ihab Derias,
chairman of the Egyptian Furniture Export Council. It explored the competitive
advantages of this industry, as well as the ministry’s vision to boost its productivity
and the sector’s exports.
“The government devotes special attention
to advance furniture manufacturing, being one of Egypt’s labor-intensive industries which boasts a competitive edge on local and
international markets,” Samir said.
They also
looked at the detailed study prepared by the IMC on furniture factory complexes
in Egypt.
