Minister of Trade and Industry
Ahmed Samir has met with Port Said Governor Adel al-Ghalban and Shraqia Governor
Mamdouh Ghorab to explore industrial activities in the two governorates and major
challenges facing producers and exporters.
“The ministry seeks during the
coming period to identify the industrial competitive advantages in each
governorate, within its new industrial and export policies, with the aim of
boosting their productivity and contribution to GDP,” Samir said.
He added that Egypt’s governorates,
as geographically varied as they are, all boast abundant natural resources and
massive production capabilities, stressing the ministry’s keenness on tapping their
full potential to create new jobs for youths.
The meeting also discussed formalizing
informal factories through cooperation between governorates and the ministry’s
entities.
Al-Ghalban pointed out that the
governorate, despite its small area and population, contributes about 1.8% to GDP,
noting that, over the past years, it has managed to transform from trading to manufacturing.
Ghorab for his part, said that Shraqia’s diversity in industrial and
agricultural activities provides great opportunities to increase productivity and
exports to foreign markets.
