The Ministry of Trade and Industry’s
Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ) has organized, in cooperation with the Medium,
Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), and USAID's Trade
Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) project, a seminar to support small businesses
exporting to the US.
The event aims to boost the export
capabilities of these companies, whose exports did not exceed $1.5 million in
2020, and identify their needs during the coming period.
“Some 183 Egyptian companies
exported QIZ products to the US worth $1.2 billion in 2021, with US imports of
ready-made garments standing at $121 billion,” head of QIZ Ashraf al-Rabiey said.
For his part, MSMEDA Vice Executive
Director Tarek Shash stressed the key role played by the agency in supporting
small and micro enterprises, the backbone of economy, especially in light of
the state’s drive to boost exports to an annual $100 billion, through providing
financial and technical support to these companies.
