“Egypt’s Production Transformation Policy Review” (PTPR) was launched today under the auspices of the Government of Egypt and with the participation of senior officials from the Development Centre of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank), in collaboration with The German International Cooperation (GIZ).

The report was launched under the OECD Initiative on Global Value Chains (GVCs), Production Transformation and Development.

“Egypt is among Africa’s heavyweights and was one of the few countries that achieved economic growth of about 3.57% during the pandemic in 2019/2020,” Gamea said in her speech at the virtual event.

The industrial sector, she added, was the country’s key economic growth driver, contributing 17.1% to the GDP in 2019/2020 compared to 16.4 % a year earlier, and growing 1.4%, although less than the 2.8% of last year.
