The amended levy will regulate export operations of nitrogen fertilizers and help provide the monthly quota set for the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

Cairo- Mar 2, 2021

Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has issued a decree maintaining the export duties previously imposed on nitrogen fertilizers by Ministerial Decree No. 59 of 2021, while raising the fee to EGP600 per ton.

“The decision - which will be in force for a year as its publication in the Egyptian gazette - comes as a result of the significant rise in global prices of fertilizers during the last months of January and February, reaching an average of $230 per ton in 2020, which necessitated a review of the existing fee,” Gamea said.

She added that the amended levy will regulate export operations of nitrogen fertilizers and help provide the monthly quota set for the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, hence meet local market needs and facilitate farmers' access to the needed quantities.
