Minister
of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has announced the launch of the “National Contest for Typical Products”, in cooperation with the UN Industrial
Development Organization (UNIDO), during the period from Feb 6 to Feb14.
“The
competition is the best method to present and preserve Egyptian cuisine, which would
contribute to the economic development of the sector’s indigenous regions,
especially rural areas,” Gamea said, referring to similar successful
experiences in Switzerland, Tunisia and Morocco.
The move,
she added, aims to promote Egyptian local foods, create job opportunities for
producers and suppliers of the industry, and boost export levels, in addition
to linking the two sectors of food industries and tourism through organizing
tourist trips to explore the characteristic foods of each governorate.
