Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil announced imposing final anti-dumping duties on steel from China, Turkey and Ukraine for a period of five years.
"The main aim of the decision is to protect local industry from dumping practices," Kabil said.
The decison, he explained, came in the wake of complaints lodged by local manufacturers, claiming huge losses caused by a significant increase in imports of Chinese, Turkish and Ukrainian steel.
A thorough investigation by the ministry's Trade Remedies sector found sufficient evidence showing a fall in the output, sales and market share incurred by local steel producers, added Ibrahim al- Segginy, head of the sector.
