Minister of
Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has issued a decree suspending the import of ceramics
and porcelain (Customs HS Code 6907) for a period of 3 months, as of the day
following its publication in the Egyptian gazette.
“The decision is
a part of a raft of measures intended to
regulate the import of consumer goods, including ceramics and porcelain,
especially during this time of global crisis,” Gamea said.
The move, she
added, aims at protecting the local industry from any potential repercussions caused
by the pandemic, indicating that the decision will be reviewed periodically according
to developments.
