Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has issued a
decree banning the exports of beans for three months, as of publication in the official
gazette.
It allows the export of any surplus quantities, determined by
the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and approved by the Ministry of Trade
and Industry.
“The move comes after coordination
with the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, and aims to cover consumption needs of staple commodities during the coronavirus
pandemic,” Gamea said.
She further added that the decision
will help keep a five and half months of strategic reserves of fava beans and push
down its global prices, which will positively affect its selling prices at home.
