Experts
in the field of packaging and food industries gathered today at a panel
discussion entitled “Innovation in Modern Packaging,” held within the Food
Africa expo.
The
event was led by Ahmed Reda, assistant minister of Trade and Industry for industrial
affairs; Ahmed Gaber, chairman of the Chamber of Printing and Packaging
Industry; Nezar Sami, innovation and technology management consultant; and Sarah
Ibrahim, executive director of the Export Council for Printing and Packaging.
Reda,
who is also the general supervisor of MTI’s technology centers, said that the
strategy of centers aims to form a link with universities and scientific
institutions, transfer and localize modern technology to the Egyptian industry
while developing new policies to support such technology, and promote the
efficient use of resources with a focus on environment- friendly technologies.
Gaber
said that packaging is a key industrial service sector, that is complementary to
various industries especially food.
“The
government has made unremitting efforts in the field of innovation, in collaboration
with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), to establish a
competitive economy that adopts the principles of innovation,” Sami said.
Ibrahim,
for her part, said that the sector’s exports grew significantly by 40% during
the first 10 months of the year.
