Minister of Trade and Industry
Nevine Gamea has taken part in the sixth edition of Egypt Can series of
conferences, “Egypt Can By Industry,” held today in the New Administrative
Capital (NAC), under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The event brought together a host
of Egyptian prominent experts and industrialists here and abroad, as well as
representatives of global companies.
“The industrial sector receives an
unprecedented attention from the political leadership and the government, being
Egypt’s economic growth driver, with 11.7% contribution to GDP,” Gamea said in
her keynote speech.
Local manufacturing, she pointed
out, employs 28.2% of the country’s workforce and its output hit EGP 982
billion in 2021, with industrial investments standing at EGP 49 billion in the
2020/2021 fiscal year, making up 6% of total investments in the market.
“Egypt boasts a versatile industrial
base with 150 specialized zones across the country,” Gamea noted, adding that
the ministry has set up 17 industrial estates in 15 governorates over the past
eight years, at an investment cost of EGP 10 billion.
