Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine
Gamea has taken part, on behalf of Egypt’s premier, in the first conference of
the Arab Competition Network (ACN), held at the headquarters of the League of
Arab States, in the presence of Assistant Secretary General Ahmed Rashid
Khattabi and Head of the Egyptian Competition Authority Mahmoud Mumtaz, as well
as representatives of other Arab competition authorities.
The ACN represents an official
platform that enhances cross-border cooperation among antitrust enforcers in
the Middle East.
“The launch of the platform comes in the midst
of tough economic conditions facing the global economy, especially due to the repercussions
of the coronavirus pandemic and the current Russia-Ukraine war,” Gamea said in
her keynote speech.
The minister stressed the need to
join efforts, and exchange visions and experiences among Arab countries in the
field of implementing antitrust laws to combat cross-border monopolistic
practices under a single official umbrella.
Egypt, she added, believes in the
importance of boosting mutual cooperation among Arab nations in all fields,
especially in trade, industry and investment; hence achieving economic
sustainable development in the region.
