Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has conducted an inspection visit of the
industrial zones in Qena, accompanied by Mohamed al-Zalat, head of the
Industrial Development Authority, and Mohamed Abdel Karim, CEO of the
Industrial Modernization Center, in addition to officials from the Micro, Small
and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA).
The visit included three
factories in the Qift industrial area, operating in the fields of iron rolling,
oxygen filling and solar cells and heaters; as well as an SME complex for engineering industries
in the Hu industrial zone, housing 420 units ready for allocation soon.
“Achieving comprehensive sustainable industrial development
in the governorates of Upper Egypt is a top priority during the current period,”
Gamea said, noting that the ministry seeks, in coordination with all state
agencies, to develop the industrial zones in Upper Egypt and benefit from the economic
and natural potential there.
The minister added that the infrastructure of four industrial
zones in Qena and Sohag is being developed, within the Upper Egypt Local
Development Program (UELDP), which targets six industrial areas, four in Sohag and
two in Qena (Qift and Hu) with a financing of up to $500 million by the World
Bank.
She further stressed the ministry's keenness to attract new domestic
and foreign investments in the manufacturing sector, especially industries with
high added value and technological component, which would increase the
competitiveness of Egyptian products on local and foreign markets.
The minister also held an extensive meeting with the
governorate investors, to discuss the challenges facing them, as well as the key
measures taken by the ministry's agencies to help them overcome some of these
challenges.
