Nevine Gamea has received Adriana Lesedini, the ambassador of Uruguay in Cairo,
who handed her two official letters from Uruguayan Minister of Livestock,
Agriculture and Fisheries Fernando Mattos.
The first regarding starting work
on a framework agreement on promoting and protecting investment, enhancing
scientific cooperation, exchanging student scholarships and cooperating in the production
of green hydrogen and fertilizers. The second is on providing the Uruguayan
side with a list of Egyptian companies exporting fertilizers, especially
phosphate and nitrogen ones.
“The government welcomes Uruguay opening
its market for Egyptian exports in general and fertilizers in particular,”
Gamea said.
The meeting also discussed establishing
a joint Egyptian-Uruguayan business council that includes representatives of the
business communities in both countries.
According to official data, Egypt-Uruguay
trade hit $493.3 million in 2021, up 138% from $207.3 million a year earlier.
The main goods exchanged between the two markets include: fertilizers, electric
appliances, foodstuffs, dairy products and wool.
