Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has taken part in
a session entitled: “Africa’s Pursuit for a Bigger Role in Global Markets,” within
the “IPAs Africa Forum: Integration for Growth”, held in Sharm el-Sheikh on
June 11-14, under the patronage of Prime Minister Modtafa Madbouly.
The event is being attended by heads of state and investment agencies
from 33 African countries, international institutions, as well as a host of
Egyptian and African ministers, officials and businessmen.
“Egypt is keen on achieving regional economic integration in Africa,”
Gamea said in her speech, stressing the need for closer regional collaboration to
achieve industrial and agricultural integration, enhance intra-trade, support SMEs,
and create more jobs, which would help accomplish the UN Sustainable Development
Goals 2030 at the continental level and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The session discussed increasing domestic production in
Africa, opportunities for regional cooperation in agriculture and industry and
ways for African agricultural and industrial products to reach global markets
in the midst of a slow global trade, in addition to promoting air freight to
Africa as a means to boost mutual trade and support supply chains.
Moreover, Gamea met with Wamkele Mene, secretary general of the African Continental Free Trade Area, on the sidelines of the forum, where they discussed means to activate the agreement and facilitate trade movement among the countries of the continent.
