Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has taken part in the opening session of the third Egypt Economic Summit, held under the patronage of the Prime Minister, in the presence of Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al-Saeed and a host of businessmen.

“The industry sector is the main locomotive for achieving national plans towards a comprehensive, sustainable economic reform,” Gamea said in her keynote speech, noting that the ministry is adopting a comprehensive strategy to deepen local manufacturing and increase export levels, in coordination with all state agencies.

The ministry, she pointed out, is currently implementing a100-incentive measure scheme aiming to improve the industrial climate and increase the country’s production capacity in the short, medium and long terms, 30 of which have already been completed related to nine ministries.

Similarly, a strategic plan has been formulated to access more markets and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products in order to reach the target of $100 billion in exports annually, Gamea added.

She further added that these measures have pushed up exports to hit $25.9 billion during the first ten months of the year, up 24.5% from the same period in 2020, as well as the industrial sector’s contribution to the country’s GDP to 17% during the fiscal year 2019/2020 compared to 16% during 2018/2019.
