Minister
of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has inaugurated the third Home Appliances
and Tableware Show “HATS Egypt”, held in Cairo on Nov 22-24. She was accompanied
by Sherif El-Sayyad, Chairman of the Engineering Industries Export Council (EECE).
Organized
by the EECE, the event is hosting the largest delegation of 70 importers from
26 promising markets in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Eastern Europe. It
also includes B2B meetings between Egyptian and foreign companies as well as factory
visits to enhance joint cooperation.
“The
engineering industries is one of the key productive sectors of the national
economy, which contributes in providing the needs of the local market and
exports to foreign markets,” Gamea said, noting that Egypt boasts great industrial
potential in the sector, qualifying it to compete on regional and global
markets.
She added
that boosting Egyptian exports to foreign markets comes atop the ministry’s agenda
during the current period, especially for the sectors in which Egypt has a
competitive advantage, to reach $100 billion annually.
According
to data, exports of engineering industries grew 42% year on year to $2.294
billion during the first nine months of the year, up from $1.612 billion in
2020. The UK, UAE, Slovakia, Saudi Arabia and France are the top importers of
the sector’s products.
