Minister of Trade and Industry
Nevine Gamea has held an expanded meeting with a number of government members,
during her visit to the UAE, including: Minister of Economy Abdulla Bin Touq Al
Marri, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises Ahmed
Belhoul Al Falasi, and Minister of State for Foreign Trade Thani Bin Ahmed Al
Zeyoudi.
The meeting explored ways to
enhance joint economic cooperation between the two countries during the next period,
mainly in the fields of entrepreneurship, SMEs and women's enterprises.
“The UAE is Egypt’s top economic
partner in the Middle East. It is one of the largest markets for Egyptian
exports regionally and globally, and is the biggest foreign investor in the
local market; with the capital of its projects exceeding $7 billion,” Gamea
said.
The two sides reviewed the
possibilities of expanding the scope of joint cooperation between the Emirates
Development Bank and the MSME Development Authority.
Gamea also pointed to the possibility of forming a joint
committee to discuss setting up an Egyptian-Emirati program for
entrepreneurship, planning a "fraternity of manufacturers" program
between companies in Egypt and the UAE; as well as cooperation in SMEs, women
and youth projects.
The meeting was attended by Sherif
al-Bedeiwi, the Egyptian ambassador to the UAE and Ahmed Maghawry, head of the Egyptian
Commercial Service.
