Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea led the Egyptian
delegation at the 108th meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Council at the
ministerial level, held today at the headquarters of the League of Arab States
in Cairo and chaired by Libya.
Delegations of Arab member states and specialized organizations
participated in the event.
“Egypt would spare no effort to help facilitate intra-Arab
trade,” Gamea said, stressing its commitment to the ‘Agreement To Facilitate
and Develop Trade Among Arab States’ and the ‘Greater Arab Free Trade Area’
(GAFTA).
The meeting followed up on the developments of the GAFTA and
the Arab Customs Union, among other issues.
Implementing commercial treatments as of next year, mutual
recognition of electronic certificates of origin between member states and the
accession of Oman to the Agreement on Liberalization of Trade in Services among
the Arab Countries were the key conclusions of the meeting.
