The new council will be led by the minister and
comprised of all parties involved in the textile business in Egypt.

Minister
of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has issued a decree establishing the Textile
Industries Council under her leadership, to comprise all parties involved in
the textile business in Egypt.
Members
of the council include: Kamel Abdel Rahman Hilal, advisor to the minister for
industrial projects; Ahmed Mostafa, chairman of the Holding Company for Cotton,
Spinning, Weaving and Ready-made Garments; Mahmoud Abdel Samie al-Shamy,
representative of the Chamber of Textile Industries on the board of the Federation
of Egyptian Industries; Said Ahmed, head of the Export Council of Spinning,
Weaving and Home Furnishings; and Marie Louise, head of Apparel Export Council of Egypt.
“The move
aims to coordinate efforts to develop Egypt’s textile industries, within a
national drive to raise the competitiveness of the sector’s exports” Gamea
said.
According
to the decree, the new council is tasked with identifying the challenges facing
the industry, drafting an action plan to implement and follow up on the
ministry’s strategy to enhance the sector, studying local production costs with
the aim of cutting them, mapping out textile industries across the governorate
and their growth potential, linking complementary industries with top
manufacturers, designing Egyptian trademarks for local and international
markets, as well as providing vocational training programs to qualify labor force
in the field.
