Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has held a virtual
meeting with members of the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories
and Metallurgy Industries, led by Waleed Gamal al-Din, on ways to develop all
industries related to the sector, boost its exports and face current challenges.
The meeting also discussed the council’s demand to establish
direct maritime lines with African markets, so that Egypt could be a global hub
for exports of the construction materials industry.
“Building materials is one of the basic sectors in the
national industry, accounting for 25% of Egypt’s exports at some $5 billion annually,”
Gamea said.
Exports of building materials, refractory and metallurgy
industries registered $3.25 billion during the first half of 2020, up 24% from
$2.437 billion a year earlier, according to official figures.
Egypt’s largest overseas markets for these products include:
UAE, Canada, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Algeria, USA, Sudan and Spain.
