Minister of Trade and Industry
Nevine Gamea has received Uruguayan Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and
Fisheries Fernando Mattos in Cairo, where they discussed expanding joint
cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, agriculture and investment.
“More efforts need to be done to
further increase trade between the two countries,” Gamea stressed, noting that
Uruguay can act as a gateway for Egyptian exports to Latin American markets.
The ministry, she said, welcomes
proposals to establish a joint business council and hold a business forum, pointing
out that the two countries are currently discussing a potential framework
agreement at the level of governments that defines areas for joint cooperation.
The minister added that there are
ample opportunities for the Uruguayan business community to invest in the local
market and benefit from the attractive incentive packages offered by the
government, mainly in the fields of commerce, agriculture, renewable
energy, investment, scientific research and green hydrogen production.
Mattos, for his part, expressed his
country’s keenness to further deepen cooperation with Egypt, which has a strategic
location for the establishment of a storage and logistics hub for Uruguayan
exports to regional markets.
