Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has met with Libyan Minister of Industry and Minerals Ahmed Abu Heisa and his accompanying delegation visiting Cairo, where they explored ways to develop economic relations between the two countries especially in industry.

The meeting discussed cooperation in establishing, developing and operating industrial zones, as well as transferring Egypt’s experience in this regard to Libya, especially that the former boasts all the essential elements for a thriving industrial sector, including: infrastructure, energy, raw material and labor.

Gamea stressed the need to step up joint action between the two governments to activate the MoUs recently signed at the last round of meetings of the Egyptian-Libyan joint higher committee, with regards to manufacturing.

Heisa, for his part, expressed his country’s keenness to benefit from Egyptian know-how in the localization of Libyan industry, establishment of industrial zones and development of investment-stimulating legislations, pointing out that Libya is looking forward to a major Egyptian role in its development projects.

According to official data, Libya is one of the largest markets for Egyptian exports, ranking 11th globally and fourth in the Arab world. Worth $572 million in 2020, Egypt’s top exports to the Libyan market included: cement, food, machinery, electrical equipment, aluminum and its products, tanning materials, and plastics.
