The
meetings discussed liberalizing trade in processed agricultural products between
Egypt and the EFTA countries.
Geneva- Oct 21,
2021
The
Swiss city of Geneva has hosted the meetings of the first round of negotiations
on trade liberalization of processed agricultural products and foodstuffs
between Egypt and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which groups
Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
The
two sides agreed on exchanging detailed data on exports and imports of processed
agricultural products between Egypt and EFTA during the month of November, as
well as exchanging lists of export priority products during the month of
December, for each party to study and choose the best available options.
The meetings come fifteen years
after the entry into force of the free trade agreement between Egypt and EFTA
in 2007, which included the liberalization of agricultural and industrial goods.
On
the other hand, liberalization of processed agricultural products had been
postponed to a later stage, according to the Egypt-EFTA joint committee, held
in Cairo in 2019.
