The initiative targets the replacement of
250,000 vehicles more than 20 years old, in 2021-2023.

Minister of
Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has participated in the delivery ceremony of the
first batch of gas-powered cars, as part of the presidential initiative to
replace and convert vehicles to natural gas.
Minister of
Finance Mohamed Maait and Minister of Petroleum Tarek al-Mulla also attended
the ceremony, in addition to Presidential Adviser on Financial Affairs Mohamed
Amin Nasr, as well as the governors of Cairo, Giza and Qalyubia, and heads of
the banks and carmakers participating in the initiative.
“The
presidential initiative is part of the state’s strategy to raise living
standards and provide better services to citizens,” Gamea said in her speech.
The minister affirmed
that it also aims to support the national automotive industry and phase out fossil-fuel
engines to help eliminate air pollution and protect the environment.
The project, she
further noted, targets the replacement of private cars, taxis and microbuses more
than 20 years old, with a total of 250,000 vehicles within 3 years: 70,000 will be replaced this year, including 55,000 private
cars and taxis and 15,000 microbuses, which is to increase to a sum of 90,000 in 2022
and 2023 each.
