Cairo- Dec 5, 2017

Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil held a meeting today with Ambassador Albert M. Muchanga, the African Union’s Commissioner for Trade and Industry, where they discussed the latest developments related to the Continental Free Trade Agreement (CFTA).

They also explored the outcomes of the recent African trade ministers meetings, held in Nigeria and Niger in late November and early December, to move forward the CFTA talks.

"Egypt is looking forward to a free trade zone in Africa, which would facilitate trade in goods and services between African countries and create a huge 1bln continental consumer market," Kabil said.

The volume of trade between Egypt and the Dark Continent registered $2.431 billion during the first half of 2017; with exports amounting to $1.663 billion, he added.
