The meeting addressed a number of issues
related to trade in goods and services, intellectual property rights,
competition policy, investment, dispute settlement, and rules of origin.

Egypt has taken part in the 9th
meeting of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Council of
Ministers of Trade, held in Accra, Ghana, on July 25-26. Minister of Trade and
Industry Nevine Gamea was represented by Ibrahim al-Seguini, assistant minister
for economic affairs.
The meeting addressed a number of issues
related to trade in goods and services, intellectual property rights,
competition policy, investment, dispute settlement, and rules of origin.
“Egypt is fully committed to carry
on with the AfCFTA negotiations,” Gamea said, stressing the country’s belief in
Africa’s ability to create regional economic policies that would strengthen its
resilience in face of crises and boost trade flows among its nations.
The AfCFTA came into force on January
1st, 2021and work is still ongoing to operationalize the agreement.
