The Egypt-Spain Multilateral
Partnership forum has opened today in Cairo, with the participation of Spanish
Secretary of State for Trade Xiana Méndez Bértolo and Ambassador to Egypt Alvaro
Iranzo, along representatives of numerous companies and government agencies from
both countries.
“Egypt is open to more Spanish
investments, which stand at €826 million,
and offers all support to companies operating in the local market, especially in
the midst of current global economic challenges,” Egyptian Trade and Industry Minister
Ahmed Samir said in a speech delivered on his behalf by Yahya al-Wathiq Billah,
head of the Egyptian Commercial Service.
The government, he pointed out, is
keen on creating a business-friendly climate through developing investment-related
legislations, stressing the key role played by the private sector in strengthening
mutual cooperation between the two markets.
The minister further noted that special
attention is given to development projects in the fields of green energy,
sewage, petrochemicals, transportation and
infrastructure; inviting Spanish companies to participate in renewable energy
projects in Egypt.
“Spain is
one of Egypt’s major trading partners in the EU, with bilateral trade exceeding
€2.7 billion and exports to the Spanish market amounting to €1.192 billion
in 2021, up 31.3% and 80.5% respectively from a year earlier,” Samir added.
