The GTEX programme aims to increase export competitiveness in the textile and clothing sector.
Cairo- Sep 22, 2019
Egypt and Switzerland have signed today a cooperation agreement to provide technical and financial support for the Egyptian textile and clothing sector, through the Global Textiles and Clothing (GTEX) programme, funded and supported by the Swedish government.
The agreement was signed by Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar and Swedish Ambassador in Cairo Paul Garnier.
The programme is being applied in five selected countries: Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia in North Africa and Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in Central Asia.
"The envisaged impact of the programme, which expires on December 31, 2021, is to increase employment and income along the T&C value chain in Egypt," Nassar said.
It will also help increase export competitiveness of small and medium-size projects, especially in the textile business, being one of the country's promising economic sectors and a major job creator.
The Egyptian government will be providing 10 percent of the total fund, worth SwF 1.5 million, the minister added.
