The Egyptian Commercial Service has met with a Romanian government delegation, led by Secretary of State within the Ministry of Economy Daniela Nicolescu, to follow up on the results of Romanian President Klaus Johannes’s visit to Cairo in October, which included economic meetings and a joint business forum.

The meeting discussed establishing a Romanian industrial area in the Suez Canal economic zone and an Egyptian-Romanian consortium to implement construction projects in both Egypt and Romania as well as African countries.

The two sides agreed to organize a visit to Egypt by Romanian companies interested in investing in the local market, and another to Romania by Egyptian firms working in furniture, wood, food, chemical and engineering industries during the first half of 2022.

They also agreed to hold a business forum on the sidelines of the next Egyptian-Romanian joint committee, to be held in Bucharest during the first six months of next year.

According to official data, Egyptian exports to Romania hit $107 million during the first half of the year, up 48% from 2020. Romania is considered a hub for Egyptian exports to enter the Balkan countries.
