On behalf of Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea, Ahmed
Maghawry, head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), participated in the 2nd regional edition of Annual Investment Meeting, held via video conference in the
United Arab Emirates, on June 29-30.
Entitled "AFRICA Unlocked: Innovation &
Sustainability as the Drivers of Economic Growth,” the two-day, virtual
conference deeply explored the developmental potential of the African continent
and highlighted its huge opportunities that can serve as key sources of
economic progress, not only for the region, but for the world.
The discussion also included issues related to how the
African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) may be harnessed to promote
greater coherence and coordination on investment regulation, that may help attract
more investments from within the continent and beyond.
Maghawry stressed Egypt's keenness to activate the AFCFTA with the aim of achieving regional
economic integration, noting that Egypt was one of the first signatories to the
agreement, and had played a key role in bringing it into force during its
presidency of the African Union.
