Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea have witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Information Technology Industry Development Authority (ITIDA), the Industrial Modernization Center (IMC), and Siemens Egypt to establish and equip the first Industry 4.0 creativity center in Egypt, in the Knowledge City, the New Administrative Capital.

The center aims to raise awareness of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies and  applications in smart factories, provide training in automation and digitalization techniques, as well as offer necessary support in the fields of encouraging industrial innovation and designing smart factories, in a way that would contribute in knowledge transfer and  development of the industrial sector.

The  MoU was signed by  CEOs of ITIDA, IMC and Siemens Amr Mahfouz, Mohamed Abdel Karim, and Mostafa al-Bagoury, respectively.

Talaat pointed out that Egypt seeks to keep pace with and localize the latest global technologies and promote smart manufacturing, in order to achieve digital transformation in all industrial sectors.

This cooperation, he added, will accelerate work towards making Egypt a leading regional hub in the field of designing and manufacturing electronics, within the "Egypt Makes Electronics" presidential initiative, devised to double the country’s electronics exports.

Gamea, for her part, stressed the ministry's keenness to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian products on local and foreign markets, through 4IR techniques and applications.

She further pointed to the ministry’s efforts to embrace industrial digitalization to cope up with the latest global trends, and succeed in the years to come.

The minister added that  coordination is underway with the Ministry of Communications and Siemens to form a mini-working group to follow up on the implementation of the agreement and work to surmount potential obstacles. The group is to meet periodically to evaluate each stage of implementation.
