The
9th COMESA Annual Research Forum has opened in Cairo, with the participation of
some 100 participants of policymakers, academia, think tanks and the private
sector physically and virtually.
The
event, which runs from September 14 to 15, is hosted by Egypt as the guest of
honor and current chair of the COMESA, and will address emerging topical issues
in economics, trade and regional integration at continental and global level
under the theme: “Enhancing Business Competitiveness and Resilience to Boost
Intra-COMESA Trade”.
“The
Egyptian state exerts great efforts to reinforce joint African action and achieve
continental economic integration under its chairmanship of COMESA,” Minister of
Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir said in a speech delivered by Assisitant
Minsiter Ibrahim el-Seguiny on his behalf.
Egypt, he added, has already undertaken numerous
measures for this end, including: a trade fair to boost bilateral trade with
COMESA countries and an African Industrial Integration initiative that aims at exploiting the Dark Continent’s
abundant resources.
