Food industries make up 24.5% of the country’s gross domestic
product and 23.2% of total employment.

On behalf of Egypt's Premier Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Trade
and Industry Nevine Gamea has inaugurated the first Annual Forum For Food Industries,
organized in Cairo by the Chamber of Food Industries.
In a keynote speech, Gamea stressed the important role played by the food industries
sector in providing local market needs of food products, as well as those of
regional and international ones.
"Food
industries is one of the key productive sectors in the national economy, making
up 24.5% of the country’s gross domestic product and accounting for 23.2% of
total employment in Egypt ",she said.
The minister pointed out that the industry is Egypt’s first largest
in terms of industrial employment and second in terms of value added, noting
that it grew 20% during the period from 2015 to 2020.
Gamea added that investments in the food industries sector stand at
EGP500 million, while its exports amounted to $5.720 billion in 2020, that is 22%
of total Egyptian exports.
The ministry, she further noted, is set to reach $100 billion in
annual exports, relying mainly on boosting exports of food industries and
agricultural crops, stressing that it spares no effort to deal with the
challenges facing this industry in
coordination with the other ministries and authorities concerned.
