Trade minister meets Spanish counterpart for cooperation talks

The two ministers discussed strengthening cooperation between Egyptian and Spanish companies in the petrochemical, ready-made garment and home furnishing sectors.

Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has held a meeting with Spanish Secretary of State for Trade at the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism Xiana Mendez, on the sidelines of the Egyptian-Spanish Business Forum, which was inaugurated by the prime ministers of the two countries.

Attended by Ambassador of Spain in Cairo Ramón Gil Casares, the meeting discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in trade, industry and investment over the next period.

The two sides reviewed the key projects implemented by Spanish companies in Egypt, especially those financed within a signed cooperation protocol, and the available investment opportunities in the Suez Canal Economic Zone in the operation and development of ports.

They also discussed strengthening cooperation between Egyptian and Spanish companies in the petrochemical, ready-made garment and home furnishing sectors, as well as benefiting from Spanish expertise in the field of food industries and agricultural products.

Gamea, furthermore, invited Spanish firms and major distribution chains to participate in the Food Africa exhibition, to be held in Cairo on December 12-14.

According to official figures, Egypt-Spain trade amounted to €1.961 billion during the first nine months of the year, up 23.8% from €1.583 billion during the same period in 2020.
