Minister
of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has attended the closing ceremony of Egypt’s
inaugural marketing forum for dates, held in the city of Kharga, the New
Valley, on October 16-18, along with ministers of supply, local development, agriculture,
as well as governors of the New Valley, Port Said, Matrouh, Aswan, Kafr al-Sheikh
and Suez.
The
event was also attended by ambassadors of Indonesia and Morocco and the Deputy
Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Egypt.
Under
the patronage of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the fair was organized by the
Ministry of Trade and Industry in cooperation with the New Valley Governorate,
with the aim of promoting the date sector, presenting the various types of
Egyptian dates and link producers with local and foreign buyers.
“The political leadership attaches great
importance to the development of palm plantation and production in Egypt, being
one of the key productive sectors of the economy,” Gamea said.
The
forum, she added, is a significant step towards boosting the sector and
increasing its competitiveness on local and international markets.
The minister
pointed out that the date sector in Egypt includes 140 industrial facilities, mainly
in the New Valley, Bahariya Oasis, Siwa, Aswan, Luxor, Badrashin, Fayoum, Borg al-Arab,
Amreya, Delta, Damietta and Sharqia,
“Egypt

The ministers
and governors also toured the date fair, where 100 exhibitors representing 12
governorates participated.
Moreover,
Gamea and the New Valley governor handed out prizes to 26 participants in the
competitions held within the the forum in the categories of best farm, date
factory, packaging… etc.
