Minister of Trade and Industry
Nevine Gamea has issued a decree extending for one year existing export duties on
a number of minerals, as of February 9, except for shipments exported to
production projects in Egypt’s free zones and within the quantities approved by
the General Authority For Investment and Free Zones.
The extended levies apply on talc- crushed
at EGP 1,200/tonne, powder at EGP 500/tonne and less than 50 micron powder at EGP
300/tonne; quartz at EGP 150/tonne; rough or pre-trimmed marble blocks at EGP 400/
tonne; raw or pre-trimmed granite blocks at EGP 400/tonne; and sand at EGP 150/tonne.
“The decision comes within the
ministry’s strategy aimed at increasing the added value of primary products, hence
encouraging the local industry by providing its locally-manufactured requirements,”
said Ibrahim al-Seguiny, assistant minister for economic affairs.
