Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has had an
extended meeting with members of the Trade and Industry committee at the
American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCham), where they discussed means of boosting Egypt-US
bilateral trade with a special focus on Egyptian exports to the United States
in light of the already signed preferential trade agreement (PTA).
The meeting also explored
suggestions for improving the business climate in Egypt, given that the AmCham
includes a large number of major US companies working in the local market for a
long time.
“The government is keen on having the private sector as a
key partner in realizing economic reform plans and achieving sustainable
development goals (SDGs),” Gamea said.
According to official figures, the US is the largest recipient of Egyptian
exports in the world, which hit $2.93 billion last year, up 31% from 2018.
